Here is your one-stop shop to understanding Second Thoughts' sizing and other questions you may have.

How does your sizing work?

Every single piece we use is upcycled from a secondhand piece, and our product is based around leaning into the original qualities of each piece while adding our ST flair. Because of the oversized nature of a lot of our pieces and our upcycling methods, our pieces most commonly utilize a dual size range. Please see below for detailed size guides for each piece we offer.

What does "S/M" mean in terms of sizing?

STRETCH WAIST BUTTON DOWN & PUFF SLEEVE BUTTON BLOUSE: Each button down gets a dual size, for example S/M, thanks to our four rows of stretch that allow the fit to truly feel custom. The second size listed (in this case, “M”) represents the maximum intended fit. That means if you’re on the higher end of this option, the garment will still fit comfortably but with a more snug, cinched look—especially around the waist.

If you prefer a looser fit or want less waist cinch, you can size up. The piece will still maintain a flattering, waist-centered shape, just with a more relaxed feel. To maintain the intended fit of the garment we recommend taking your true size. 

Think of it like this:

• S/M fits best on Small to Medium body types and is generally considered true to size.

• If you're a true Medium, the fit will be snug and more contoured.

• You can size down for a guaranteed tighter and more snug fit or size up for a looser fit, but the elastic works best with tension from your waist.

We have a generalized size chart featuring the approximate size correlation for familiar women's sizing.

• XXS/XS: true to size to women's sizes 00 – 2
• S/M: true to size to women's sizes 4–6
  
• L/XL: true to size to women's sizes 8–12
  
• XXL/1X: true to size to women's sizes 14–18
  
• 2X/3X: true to size to women's sizes 18–22

MICRO MINI SKIRT: Similarly to our button downs our micro minis utilize a dual size as you can determine where you prefer it to sit, however we only use three dual sizes. The second size listed (ex. S/M in this case, “M”) represents the maximum intended fit and would sit higher meaning more snug on your hips. For a low rise fit we’d recommend sizing up, and for a more snug fit sizing down or staying at your true size. Please see our approximate size measurements for our micro minis:

• XS/S: fits hips 34”–36” (typically corresponding to women’s size 0–4)

• M/L: fits hips 38”–41” (typically corresponding to women’s size 6–10)

• XL/XXL: fits hips 43”–46” (typically corresponding to women’s size 12–16)

THE CROPPED BUTTON DOWN, EASY CROPPED BLAZER & CROPPED TRENCH: All cropped items are sized by the length of the crop as the width of the garment and sleeve length are untouched. If you want the length of the garment to be longer, size up and if you prefer it to be shorter you can size down. All garments are from secondhand men's pieces so the oversized fit is built in to the design.

THE TIE BELT: Each tie is created with an end-to-end length measurement based on your hips. If styled higher on the waist you'll have additional excess at the end of the belt; we intentionally created it this way to allow the belt to be cohesive with whatever pants you choose to style it with. Additional Questions

What does made-to-order mean?

Made-to-order is a more sustainable practice we use to make sure we're not overbuying stock, while still allowing you to secure the piece you want in your preferred size (aka, no waitlist needed). We have an exact production process for each style we make, so every piece is made the same way. Made-to-order pieces will also take an additional 3-5 business days to ship.

Are all pieces really secondhand?

Yes! We do not use new or even NWT clothing, or produce any textiles. We are 100% handmade and sourced in New York City, and all of our designs are based on a pre-loved garment as a base that are sourced by hand. 

How should I care for my ST pieces?

Please check out the product page of the ST piece you are referring to for more specific care instructions. All ST pieces should be dry cleaned as needed.

What does "pre-order" mean?
Pre-order applies to garments we are able to secure easily but may not keep in stock at all times. Producing certain items or sizes via pre-order allows customers to get the exact item in the size they want, and allows us to only source specific stock we need rather than potentially removing pieces from the hands of those that need them more. Any items that are pre-order will be labeled in your cart when you add them and are shipped as soon as possible. All pre-order pieces are final sale.

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes, we love to work with brands and stores looking to diversify their retail products with Second Thoughts! For our Classic styles you can visit us via our wholesale portal to get additional information about our wholesale pricing. For more specific or custom wholesale orders please email us directly. Please note at the moment we have a 60-day turnaround time for wholesale orders of 24 items or more.
